Does USAA cover windshield replacement in Florida?

Yes — if your USAA auto policy was issued in Florida and includes comprehensive coverage. Under Florida Statute 627.7288, the deductible doesn't apply to windshield damage, so most USAA policyholders pay $0 for a repair or replacement.

The waiver covers the front windshield; side and rear glass follow your normal comprehensive deductible. Liability-only policies don't cover damage to your own glass, and policies written in another state follow that state's rules. Not sure what you have? Send us your policy details and we'll check before you do anything.

Good to know

  • USAA covers replacement glass of like kind and quality. If you want OEM glass when the approved part isn't OEM, USAA says you may owe the difference — we'll tell you up front which glass your claim covers.
  • USAA notes that vehicles with lane assist or collision detection need their sensors aligned to the new windshield. We calibrate ADAS cameras on site when your vehicle needs it.
  • Headlights, taillights, side markers and fog lights aren't part of a glass claim.

USAA windshield claim FAQ

Does USAA cover windshield replacement in Florida?

Yes, if your USAA auto policy was issued in Florida and includes comprehensive coverage. Florida Statute 627.7288 says the deductible doesn't apply to windshield damage, so the replacement is typically $0. Liability-only policies don't cover damage to your own glass.

Can I choose my own glass shop with USAA?

Yes. USAA states that you have the right to choose your glass repair shop, and Florida Statute 627.7291 says the same for every insurer.

Who files the windshield claim — me or the glass shop?

You do. For policies issued or renewed on or after July 1, 2023, Florida law (s. 627.7289) doesn't allow glass benefits to be assigned to a repair shop, so the claim stays in your name. We walk you through it, usually in one short call.

Will a windshield claim raise my USAA rates?

Windshield claims fall under comprehensive coverage and aren't at-fault accidents, so they usually don't affect rates the way at-fault accidents can. Florida law doesn't specifically bar insurers from considering claim history, so ask USAA if you're concerned.

I already paid for my windshield. Can USAA reimburse me?

USAA lets members submit a glass reimbursement request online. You'll need the vehicle, the amount you paid, and the shop's name and phone number.
